American Girl "Addy" Dress and Summer Gifts

SUMMER IS COMING!

Can't you feel it??

One of the best things about summer is...no more school! Now, I'm not in school, but as a tutor, I think it's possible that teachers/tutors look forward to summer break WAY more than the students do. (No offense, students...it's not you, it's us!)

I'm going to miss my students though. They've been great, and I wanted to show them that by giving them a little something to start their summer off right.

Aren't these towels adorable?

I picked them up at WalMart along with some inexpensive sunglasses and sunscreen, one for each of my students. The sunglasses and sunscreen are actually wrapped inside the towels, which are tied up with twine. I also found these delicious-looking popsicle gift tags, which went perfectly with the bright towels. Mmm...now I want a popsicle.

My most recent sewing project (due in less than three weeks, yikes!) is recreating the American Girl "Addy" dress for a friend's play.

I'll be using Simplicity 3725, matched with this beautiful print from Etsy seller moderncloth.

I'm hoping to be able to develop a pattern for this dress so that others can use it too. I'm amazed that no one has developed any child-sized American Girl patterns yet!

This also may be my last post for a while, as I will be moving out in a few days and will not have much access to a computer. Here's hoping I find a cheap laptop soon!

Much love <3

Busy, busy.

Wow! It has been a bit, hasn't it? Well, I've been thiiiiiis close to posting this last week, but you know, things happen...I've been doing a lot in the last week, including searching for a car - which, by the way, could probably be used as a form of torture. UGH!

I did make a dress between now and my last post! I've been putting off writing about it though, because I wanted to get THE perfect picture of it. Something perfectly clear with a crisp white background? Eh, yeahhh...no. Not happening anytime soon! Here's a picture I took right after I finished it:

(That shirt underneath is just what I had on at the moment, I just needed something under there, heh :P)

Yesterday, my boyfriend, my sister, and I went up to my new room and painted it! Yea! Here's a picture of before...

And you'll just have to wait to see the after :)

Don't you love that carpet? :D and those windows are pretty funky too, eh?

More pictures to come. Also to come:

- Tip on hemming stretch knits

- Button bracelet giveaway!

- 10 minute headband tutorial

- Yarn-chandelier-with-bouncy-ball tutorial

I'm doing this today! Can't wait!

Buhbye <3

Blog Inauguration...Blogauguration.

Well hey there. My name is Carey and this is my sweet little baby blog, Carey Creates. As you may have guessed, I create things. And boy, do I love doing it.

I love anything clever, money-saving, uncommon, organic, homemade, and customized. My heart is in sewing and fashion, but it also dabbles in decor, beauty, baking, and just general craftery. I started this blog as an outlet for the creative ideas swimming around in my brain and my Pinterest account (check it out at pinterest.com/caringo/). My hope is to have a new post every week; once I get the hang of this, perhaps more often! These posts will be about anything from sewing projects and DIY home decor to delicious homemade foods and ingenious repurposing.

My main goal with this blog is to bring beautiful ideas and inspirations to you, my hip happening readers, with crisp pictures and detailed instructions. If, at any time, you feel as though the instructions are inadequate or the pictures unclear, promptly comment on said confusing blog post or email me at careycreates@hotmail.com. If you have any projects you'd like to share or have me try (I'm a willing guinea pig), send those my way too.

Thanks for the visit, come back soon - I've got some shardigans (shirts to cardigans) in the works, and perhaps a few DIY wax luminaries will stop by! Farewell <3
